Don’t Throw Out That Cardboard

When I was a youngster, my parents bought a large recliner, and it came in this huge cardboard box.  Being the dreamer that I was, I crawled inside and decided to make it something more.  My dad cut out a “door” in the front and with a couple of blankets, a pillow and a good book, it was my urban fort in a wilderness that was…my backyard. Ah, the days of simplicity.

There’s just something about cardboard. It’s industrial…airy…fun. And when you’ve got loads of it, there’s just a childhood urge to repurpose and build stuff from it. Check out Nothing’s office space, a creative agency formed by Michael Jansen and Bas Korsten in Amsterdam, and their office is made almost completely of cardboard from wall to wall. They put new meaning to the phrase, “living out of a cardboard box”.
